Recount writing

It was a gloomy Friday afternoon, when my mum decided we need to go shopping. I groaned. I didn’t want to go, it was freezing outside and it was raining. But of course I had to go, because I couldn’t stay home. I lay on my bed for a minute, before I got up and got ready.

I grumpily got into the car and waited for my mum and sister. While I waited I read my book. A couple of minutes later my mum and sister came out of the house. I put my book away as they got in. My mum started the car and we drove away. As my mum drove, she and my sister talked about what we needed to buy. Mostly it was just stuff for all my cousins, aunts and grandparents. I just stared at my window and admired the scenery.

First we needed to go to baby factory so twenty minutes later we were in front of baby factory. My mum quickly found a parking spot. Once she did I slowly opened my door, and I slowly got out. A smile creeped over my face as I smelt the fresh air. As I stepped inside the building I sighed. My mum and my sister did most of the work, while I just walked around looking at the tiny clothes. Finally after ten minutes we were done, and we walked back towards the car. Next we had to do more shopping.

“ Where are we going now ”? I asked my mum. “ Westfield ” my mum replied. “Great” I said sarcastically. Five minutes later we had arrived. I walked inside the building and smelt the the familiar smell of fries. I was starving, but I didn’t say anything. First we had to buy jewellery, so a couple of minutes later we were walking around in a jewellery store. This wasn’t as boring as baby factory, but it was still a bit boring. We walked around the store trying to find things we could buy. The pile of jewellery in my mum's arms got taller and by the time we had to pay, we had 20 pieces of jewellery.

After we paid we went into another jewellery store, to get even more jewellery for my cousins. Also my dad had told us to get extra things just in case. This time I helped them. After a while I got bored, so I left my mum and sister to explore the shop. Some of the things looked prettier than a diamond sparkling in the sun. After a while I got bored again so I slowly walked towards my mum and my sister. I was happy to find my mum and sister paying.

Next we had to get something for my aunt. So a couple of minutes later we were walking around in one of the many clothing stores. My mum said we had to get something she could wear in winter, so we walked around trying to find something my for my aunt. A couple of minutes later my sister had found the perfect item, it was a knitted sweater. As my mum payed I realised that my feet were aching. I looked looked around to find a place to sit down and I failed.

“ Can we go now” ? I asked. “ Yes” my mum replied. Finally I thought. I was exhausted and my feet were killing me. We went outside, found our car and drove away. On the way home my sister and my mum talked about what else they needed to buy. I listened for a while, but I got bored and I took out my book and started to read. My book was called fantastic beasts and where to find them. It was very interesting and before I knew it we were home.

My day had been a very long and exhausting one. I was relieved to be home. For the rest of the day I watched movies on my chromebook.

Why dogs are better pets than cats

Why dogs are a better pet than cats

I strongly believe that dogs are better pets than cats. I will provide you with adequate reasons as to why dogs are better pets than cats.

Dogs can protect you. At the moment the crime rates are very high in New Zealand. If someone tries to come into your house in the middle of the night, the dog will be alert of the intruder. The dog will probably bark, which will wake you up. A dog can also attack the intruder.  If you had a cat an intruder could easily come inside and because cats aren’t loud you won’t wake up. The intruder would be able to steal from your house and a cat probably won’t even try to attack.

Dogs can be a great companion or friend. If you're alone at home and your lonely a dog can be good company. If you're bored you can play with a dog or take it for a walk. All cats do is sleep, eat and lick theirself. A cat could never be good company because their sleeping half the time and when they're awake they're just boring. You would be bored out of your mind if you had a cat. Only a fool would think that cats are exciting and fun. Dogs on the other hand can be fun to play with, and you can do all sorts of things with them.

You can train a dog. Dogs are very intelligent and can be trained to do all sorts of tricks and commands e.g. sit, stay, roll over, fetch etc. You can barely do anything with a cat so you definitely can’t train it, unless it's highly intelligent which isn’t very likely. Imagine trying to train a cat. All a cat wants to do is sleep so trying to train it would be next to impossible. Even if you could train a cat, training a dog would a so much more fun. Especially at the end when the dog is trained.

These are all of my reasons as to why dogs are better pets than cats. I hope I have convinced you beyond doubt, and you now believe that dogs make better pets than cats.

Why we should drink water

                                                  Why we should drink water

Do you know why we should drink water? I will provide you with interesting facts as to why we should drink water.

Water helps you concentrate while you're driving or studying because water contains oxygen and hydrogen. Oxygen is a very important element of the periodic table , it’s what we need to breathe. Hydrogen is also a very important element, because it stabilises things like acids and proteins in your body.

Water helps you stay healthy. It removes toxins from your body. Water washes and cleans your body. This is very important. For example it flushes your kidney which prevents stones from forming. It also hydrates you. If you're not properly hydrated  your body can’t perform at it’s highest level. Water also helps you lose weight naturally. Too many people are obese in New Zealand. Water also moisturises your skin. Water prevents constipation. It keeps you regular. If you're not regular you  will become sick. Water replaces the lost fluids while you're exercising. It also lubricates your joints.

Water is an essential liquid in your body. Humans need water to survive. There has to be water in your body at all times. Your body uses water in all its cells, organs, and tissues. Your body loses water each time you breathe, sweat or digest. It’s very important that you rehydrate by drinking water.

It’s very important to drink water, but it’s also very important not to drink too much water. It’s dangerous to drink too much water. Drinking too much water can cause the salt or sodium level in your blood to drop too low. This condition is called hyponatremia, it's very serious and can be fatal. There’s a very rare chance that you’ll die but it can happen to anyone.

I hope you now know why we should drink water, but not too much water. I think you will drink more water now than you did before.

How a butterfly is formed

Butterflies are beautiful creatures, you will usually find them flying around flowers in a garden. Do you know how a butterfly is formed? I will provide you with interesting information about the life cycle of a butterfly.

A butterfly's life starts as a round, oval, or cylindrical egg. The shape of the egg depends on the type of butterfly. Butterflies will lay their eggs on the bottom of a leaf.

The butterfly choses the leaf to lay it’s eggs on. It choses the leaf that the caterpillar can start eating when it hatches. If it chooses a leaf that the caterpillar won’t be able to eat, the caterpillar will die.

After ten to fourteen days the caterpillar hatches from the egg. In the warmer weather the caterpillar will hatch after five to ten days. The time it takes to hatch depends on the climate. The caterpillar starts eating the leaf it was born on immediately. For around two weeks the caterpillar eats and eats and eats.

One day the caterpillar stops eating and starts to form into a pupa or a chrysalis. You may think that nothing is happening, but inside the caterpillar is going through a stage called metamorphosis. Metamorphosis is when a creature transforms from one form to another. The caterpillar will be transforming into a butterfly.

When it emerges from the chrysalis it will no longer be a caterpillar, it will be a butterfly. When the butterfly comes out it’s wings will be flat against its body, so the butterfly will have to pump blood into its wings. The blood helps the wings spread out because it has oxygen in it.  Once the butterfly has pumped blood into its wings it will start flying.

Next the butterfly will mate. After mating it will lay round, oval or cylindrical eggs and the cycle will start all over again.
