Ratios

                                                                  Ratios

A jar contains 550 beans. Of all the beans, ⅖ are white beans and the rest are navy beans.

How many white beans are there? 220

Step 1 - First work out what ⅕ is. ⅕ = 110
Step 2 - Double it. 110+110=220

What is the ratio of white beans to navy beans? 2 : 3

If white beans are ⅖ then the navy beans will be ⅗. So the answer will be 2 : 3

How many navy beans are there? 330

Add 110 to 220 because 110 is ⅕ and 220 is ⅖, so all you have to do to get ⅗ is to add 110 to 220. 220+110=330
