Scenario: Katy is lining up after lunch outside the classroom when someone kicks her legs from behind. She turns round to shout at the boy who kicked her, but they both get in trouble with the teacher. You witnessed Katy being kicked. How would you help?

  1. Make the boy say sorry.
  2. Tell the teacher that Katy was kicked by the boy.
  3. Make the victim and perpetrator shake hands.
  4. Help Katy to calm down
  5. Ask the teacher to monitor the boy.

What does manaakitanga mean? Hospitality, kindness, generosity, support, respect integrity, confidence, considerate, responsible, nurturing, reciprocity, guidance, caring for others.

How can I demonstrate manaakitanga daily?

  1. Show respect to the teacher.
  2. Help new students feel welcome.
  3. Give things to charity.
  4. Help people who are lost.
  5. Give non wealthy people food and water.
  6. Don’t talk when other people are talking.
  7. Listen to the person who is talking.
  8. Show respect to my elders.
  9. Use a classroom voice.
  10. Be responsible for your choices and faults.

What does Rangatiratanga mean? Believing in yourself, having confidence, knowing when to lead and when to follow, being your true self, self control, managing self, ownership, self determination.

How I will show rangatiratanga in my daily life?

  1. Making responsible choices.
  2. Staying calm when someone annoys me.
  3. Staying on task.
  4. Finishing my work.
  5. Believing in myself.
  6. Being a leader.
  7. Having control over my feelings.
